Walking round an agricultural show some 5 – 6 years ago, discussing how to mow our 8 acres of land, we happened across the British Alpaca Society show stand – THE SEED WAS SOWN!
These captivating animals could solve the mowing problem and at the same time would grace and enhance our land. In the summer of 2007 we purchased three 'test pilot' males, we now have a herd of breeding females and are well and truly hooked...
Harefield Touch of Class and Harefield Endeavour
Having spent many hours researching Alpacas and visiting a number of Alpaca breeders, we decided to specialise in high quality animals with elite genetics, this led us to Rob and Lesley Rawlings at Wellground Alpaca Stud who where at that time agents for the Australian Alpaca stud EP Cambridge one of the finest breeders and importers of elite genetics in the world.
Elite alpacas possess superior fleece characteristics, alpaca fleece is finer than cashmere, luxurious, silky in texture and stronger than mohair. It contains no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic and is a hollow fibre, making it an excellent insulator, and is effectively warmer than goose down.
In 2008 we purchased 5 pregnant young elite females, in the first year they produced 3 female crias (baby alpaca), these females were subsequently re-mated to Cambridge Buckingham, one of the most outstanding stud males in the U.K.
Cambridge Adelaide Inspiration. Adelaide was sired by Australian herdsire, Somerset Accoyo Valverde. Adelaide has so far produced 2 female cria for us by Cambridge Buckingham.
Harefield Touch of Class born 20th June 2009 out of Cambridge Adelaide Inspiration and sired by Cambridge Buckingham, she is whiter than white and although very early to tell is exhibiting fantastic fleece quality.
Harefield Simply Superb another daughter of Adelaide and Buckingham she is our special No 1 girl! Her fleece is simply stunning with extemely fine individual staples and high frequency crimp, exhibiting all the exceptional fleece attributes of her father.
EP Cambridge Allemande sired by the famous Australian herdsire EP Cambridge Peruvian Spartacus.
Harefield Dream Maker, daughter of Allemande and Accoyo Remarque she really has made our dreams come true, she was our third female cria to be born, and with her elite genetics promises to be an outstanding female addition to our core herd.
EP Cambridge Primabelle sired by the famous Australian herdsire EP Cambridge Peruvian Spartacus. We call her Pretty Primabelle, the photo does not do her justice, she was an essential addition to our core herd and has given us a wonderful female Harefield Star Attraction.
Harefield Star Attraction daughter of Primabelle sired by EP Cambridge Neptune she has a fantastic genetic background and boy does this show in her fleece, which has fine uniform staples, highly aligned and well organised, the lustre is exceptionally high - star quality!
EP Cambridge Zishka sired by the famous Australian Herdsire Jolimont Encantador. Another essential addition to our core herd, as this bloodline is quite rare in the U.K. She has recently given birth to a very strong male cria Harefield Endeavour sired by Accoyo Killawasi, and has now been remated to Wellground Close Encounter.
Harefield Endeavour born May 2009, he is exhibiting excellent conformation, with a fleece showing superb density and crimp, a typical Killawasi offspring, he is already showing great interest in the opposite sex as you can see from the photo at the top of the page!
EP Cambridge Pirouette, another fantastic Spartacus girl, Spartacus has sired some of the world's top show winning alpacas, he is renowned for his advanced fleece characteristics which he passes on to his progeny.

Cambridge Buckingham's genetics are sourced from the World’s finest Elite Ancestors. He was sired by the amazing Jolimont Commisario, Buckingham’s dam is Cambridge Trinity, she was sired by NWA Ltd. Ruffo. With Cambridge Buckingham having the genetics of both Commisario and Ruffo, this has created arguably the most exciting genetic package available in the UK today.
